Current Style: Standard
The Centre for Nanoscience and Technology was established in 2010 and it works in synergy with the other Science and Engineering Departments of the University. All the faculty members possess a high research profile with the ability to conduct research in the forefront areas of Nanoscience and Technology. The faculty members have received research funds of more than Rs. 6.5 Crores from various funding agencies such as DST, CSIR, UGC, UGC-DAE, DRDO, ICMR, AICTE etc. In addition, the University has also sanctioned a special grant of Rs. 5 Crores for the development of the Centre. The faculty members of the Centre have published more than 400 research articles in the International Journals and also taken more than 20 patents. The Centre has taken initiation to undertake many collaborative research work and consultancy services. The Centre is proud of its Alumni in various spheres of learning and research both Nationally and Internationally.
M.Tech. - Nanoscience and Technology:
Eligibility: B.E / B.Tech in Nanoscience and Technology/ Polymer Science and Engg., Electrical and Electronics/ Electronics and Communication / Electronics and Instumentation/ Computer Science and Engg./ Chemical Technology/ Materials Science and Engg./ Mechanical Engg./ Metallurgical Engg./ Biotechnology with a minimum of 55% of marks. (OR) Masters degree in Physics/Applied Physics / Chemistry / Applied Chemistry/ Materials Science / Nanoscience and Technology / Biotechnology / Bio-Chemistry with a minimum of 55% of marks.
Entrance Examination: The admission is based on a National level entrance examination conducted by Pondicherry University and the question paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions covering equally the basic Sciences (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science /Biotechnology) at undergraduate level.
Ph.D. - Nanoscience and Technology:
Eligibility: M.Tech in Nanoscience and Technology / Nanotechnology / Nano-Electronics / Nano-Biotechnology with the background of Electrical/ Electronics/Instrumentation / Chemical / Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering / Polymer Science and Engg.,/ Materials Science and Engg.,/ Energy Technology/ Environmental Engg./ Biotechnology and other relevant subjects with a minimum of 55% of marks. (OR) Masters degree in Physics /Applied Physics / Chemistry/ Applied Chemistry/ Materials Science / Environmental Sciences / Biotechnology / Bio-Chemistry with a minimum of 55% of marks.
Entrance Examination: The admission is based on a National level entrance examination (70% weightage) and interview (30% weightage) conducted by Pondicherry University and the question paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions covering the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Biotechnology at graduate and post graduate levels. The candidates who qualified CSIR-UGC JRF/SRF, DST-Inspire Fellowship are exempted for writing the University entrance examination for the admission of Ph.D program.

The Centre has equipped laboratories and instrumentation facility for teaching and research in Nanoscience and Technology. The instrumentation facility includes High end computing cluster with 26 computer systems for modeling and simulation studies, X-ray diffractometer, Nano-indenter, Electrochemical workstation with AC-impedance analyzer, E-beam and thermal evaporation coating units, UV-Visible spectrometer, Spectrofluorometer, Solar simulator with J-V measurement system, Ultrasonic-homogenizer, High speed centrifuge, Water purifier, Quartz double distillation unit, Electrospinning unit, Ball milling, Glove box, Air oven, Digital electronic balance, Precision Spin & Dip coating units, High temperature tubular and Muffle furnaces, LCZ meter etc. Further, some more major equipment are available in the Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) of the University.
